What Other Sailors are Saying About Gulf Coast Rigging

When Hurricane Ian damaged the standing rigging and lifelines on our Catalina 36 Mk II sailboat, we turned to Ray and Gulf Coast Rigging. Ray worked closely with us, following original specifications and made recommendations to ensure the safety of the boat and the rigging. He was also willing to reuse certain original parts to keep costs down. The total cost was competitive with another rigger. It was Ray’s attention to detail and communication with us that made the difference.

Superlative rigging service! I’ve owned sailboats in NY, NJ, MD, NC and Florida. Ray and his guys are simply ‘the best’!

I give them my highest recommendation!!

Ray is highly professional, honest and a pleasure to do business with. We experienced an issue with our roller furling headsail when we attempted to take it down to put the boat on the hard. We were given Ray’s name by the yard. I called while we were on the way and he was very responsive. He came out shortly after we arrived and provided us with a quote. The work was done on time and at the price quoted. Hurricane Ian paid a visit and and left us with a damaged furling extrusion. Needless to say with all the damaged boats Ray was very busy. This was a small job but he was just as responsive and acquired the part and repaired it within our time frame. We can’t speak highly enough of his knowledge and professionalism.

Two years ago, Gulf Coast Rigging inspected my rig on my 42Ft Hunter Passage and found a crack in one of the fittings. I had them rerig all the shrouds and stays. I found them to be honest and fair with their pricing. They kept me informed all through the process and did excellent work with only quality materials.

The boat just went through hurricane Ian 140 to 150 mile and hour winds while on my dock in Punta Gorda. Several of the boats around me have broken mast because their rigging failed. My rigging held up with absolutely no damage. I would highly recommend Gulf Coast Rigging to anyone thinking of rerigging their boat.

Ray and his helper Kurt just stepped my mast on my 50’ Hunter that was shipped from WI. When I first contacted Ray he let me know that he would be happy to earn my business. The boat arrived 2 weeks ago Thursday and he was there to meet myself and the truck driver that moved the boat here. He inspected what needed to be done and informed me that he would be the following Monday to get going on the job. You could see that Ray took pride in his work and I felt 100% confident that his work would be as expected. He also did not mind my endless questions as well as me offering to assist where I could. Our mast is 62’ and in the day it went up, it did so with no issues. Working with Brady from Charlotte Harbor, it was clear they were working as a team. He replaced all cotter pins and used anti-seize on fasteners. I needed a new digital tv antenna wire as the current one was weathered. No one had the original cable so Ray got on the phone to his electronics guy and distracted me to what would work. Ray let me know that it would be best to let the boat “settle” after being in the water and then he would come fine tune the rig at my house.
I would highly recommend Gulf Coast Rigging, great work and price was fair. Looking forward to having Ray as my rigging guy!
5 stars plus.

We are grateful to Ray and his outstanding Gulf Coast rigging team for their knowledge, skill, and excellent execution of new standing and running rigging on our Gulfstar 50 Sloop, S/V Slip Away. Hurricane Ian did more damage than we had originally determined and we are looking forward to trying out the new Harken furler. We enjoy doing business with Ray now and anytime needed help over the past decade of cruising here on the Gulf.

I have moved my sailboat many times over the past 20 years and none of the previous riggers even come close to the care and professionalism of Ray and his team.
Prices are competitive and the work far exceeded my past experiences and expectations.

Thank you…

After the Port Charlotte Ian disaster, Ray and Gulf Cost Rigging were there to check the rigg on our Hunter 46LE. They replaced the wind instruments and in-spite of their busy schedule came back after a few days to replace our anchor light. Always professional, on time and reasonably priced. Highly recommended!

Ray was very conscientious and was very helpful through the whole process. It is obvious he has many years of experience in rigging sailboats and he was always professional and responsive to any questions I had during the rigging of our new to us 40′ sailboat. He continues to be a resource when I have any questions regarding fine tuning of the rigging post work. I would highly recommend Gulf Coast Rigging!!

Ray and Kurt came on time, did excellent job. The true southern gentleman, you can count on. I wish more craftsman were like them.

Gulf Coast Rigging performed the removal of the mast from my 32 PDQ catamaran, inspection and recommendations prior to the re installation of the mast. All work performed very professional with no exceptions.. There were no exceptions in the service provided. A job well done.

Ray has worked on my Bristol 29.9, Tess, and performed first class work, he really knows his rigging. Ray changed all of my standing rigging and life lines. He is meticulous, knowledgeable, and honest. Since I solo sail Tess, I don’t trust just anyone to work on by boat. Ray also stands behind his work. Thanks Ray!

Katheryn Ferry

Ray and Curt have done an outstanding job for us on our 44’ catamaran for the pat 10 years, including new shrouds, re-stepping our mast and lightning strike repairs.

David Crane

My wife and I have used Gulf Coast Rigging a total of four times. The last time we called them we had issues with our genoa and jammed rigging at the mast head, the sail unfurled at our Marina slip on a very windy super bowl Sunday night. We were in fear the dock lines would fail. We emailed back and forth with Ray from Gulf Coast during the ball game and he was very patient with us and replied numerous times with suggestions and keeping us calm to get us through the night. The next morning he and his crew were at our dock early trouble shooting our sails and within minutes they were able to secure the genoa and lower and remove the sail. this was a huge relief as the winds were still very strong, these guys are fantastic!

Matt O'Connor

These guys are terrific. We needed them to d-step our mast and prepare our catamaran for shipping. They even came early because there was a threat of rain. They were able to get it completed timely and everything went perfect.

Ray and Curt at Gulf Coast Rigging have been instrumental in keeping me sailing. They have solved what at first appeared to be insolvable problems to get the best utility out of my sailing vessel while doing so at reasonable prices and in a timely and responsive manner. They are friendly and efficient, and have proved to me on multiple occasions they always put the customer first.

Brent Brown

Finally, someone who knows what they are doing, do it all very well and at a reasonable price. My main back stay needed a new turnbuckle and then a tuning of all the mast stays. Ray evaluated the needed work, told me when it could be done, sent Kurt with all the necessary equipment and asked a very reasonable price only after he was sure I was happy with the finished product. Gulf Coast offers a variety of rigging work and they are my “GO-TO” for any and all future work.

Thom Feneran

Ray was right on time and did what he said he was going to do. It was more than maintenance. Ray also taught as he went about his job. Fully recommend.

Roger K Davis

Had a seized jib furler and a deadline to get it resolved for our client’s pre-purchase survey and sea trial. Ray was able to scramble and get it fixed asap. The cost for a new forestay and furler were very reasonable and all completed professionally in very short order. He and his team saved the day. Five stars.
